Download Reddit Videos With Sound on iPhone

You find a great clip on Reddit, run it through a downloader, open Photos, and hit play. The video plays in silence. If that keeps happening, the cause is the way Reddit stores video, which most downloaders don't handle. This guide explains why, and shows how to save Reddit videos to your iPhone with the sound intact.

The quick answer

Get TVDL Pro, add the TVDL Pro shortcut, then share any public Reddit post to TVDL Pro. It saves the video to your Photos app with the sound. It also saves Reddit images, galleries and GIFs. Reddit is a Pro platform, so the free TVDL shortcut won't save it.

How to save a Reddit video with sound, step by step

1. Get TVDL Pro. Pick a plan on the Pro page. Monthly is $5, yearly is $48 (which works out to $4 a month), and there is a one-time Lifetime plan. Reddit is included in all of them.
2. Add the Pro shortcut. Open the TVDL Pro shortcut link on your iPhone, tap Add Shortcut, and enter the email you paid with. You only do this once.
3. Share the Reddit post. In the Reddit app, tap Share on the post and pick TVDL Pro. If Reddit shows its own share menu without TVDL Pro in it, tap Copy Link, open the Shortcuts app, run TVDL Pro and paste the link.
4. Find it in Photos. After a few seconds, the video shows up in your Photos app with its sound, ready to watch offline or send to someone.

The first run asks for permission to fetch the link and save to Photos. Tap Allow and later saves go straight through.

Which Reddit links work

You don't need to think about this most of the time, because tapping Share in the app gives TVDL the right link. But if you are pasting a link by hand, these are the ones TVDL accepts:

• Share links from the Reddit app, the ones that look like reddit.com/r/subreddit/s/…. This is what Copy Link gives you in the app.
• Full post links, like reddit.com/r/subreddit/comments/… or reddit.com/comments/…, including posts made on a user profile.
• Gallery links, like reddit.com/gallery/….
• Short links, like redd.it/….

Links from www.reddit.com, old.reddit.com and new.reddit.com all work. What won't work is a link to a whole subreddit or a user profile, because those aren't a single post. Direct media links (the ones starting with v.redd.it or i.redd.it) aren't accepted either, so copy the post's link instead.

Why Reddit downloads so often come out silent

When someone uploads a video to Reddit, Reddit doesn't keep it as one file with picture and sound together. It splits it into two streams: one with the video and one with the audio. The Reddit app plays them in sync, so you never notice while you're scrolling.

A downloader that goes looking for "the video file" finds the video stream, saves it, and stops. The audio sits in a different place and never gets fetched. That's why so many Reddit downloads look fine and play in total silence.

TVDL Pro saves the version with the sound attached. What lands in your Photos is one normal file, picture and sound together, that plays anywhere and shares like any other clip.

There is one case TVDL can't fix. Some Reddit clips were uploaded with no audio track at all. If the file the poster uploaded had no sound, there is nothing for TVDL or any other tool to fetch, and nothing can add it back. If a clip is silent in the Reddit app too, it will be silent when you save it.

What you can save from Reddit

TVDL Pro saves more than video from Reddit:

• Videos, with the sound.
• Images from single-image posts.
• Galleries, meaning every image in a multi-image post, not just the first one.
• GIFs, which go into Photos alongside everything else.

The honest limits

Reddit is one of the newest additions to TVDL Pro. It went live alongside Threads, Facebook and Kuaishou, which I wrote about in the launch post. It works, and I'm still tuning it. Now and then a post might not save. When that happens, TVDL tells you and offers to send me the link, and those reports are how I find what's broken and fix it. Please send them.

A few other things to know:

• Public posts only. TVDL sees what someone who isn't logged in can see. It can't save posts from private subreddits or private accounts.
• Generous daily limits. Pro has daily limits set for normal personal use. Everyday saving won't come close.
• iPhone and iOS versions. TVDL works on iOS 13 and later, and I've tested it on iOS 27.

Is it free?

No. The free TVDL shortcut saves from X, Bluesky and Mastodon. Reddit, along with Instagram, TikTok, Threads, Facebook and Kuaishou, is part of TVDL Pro. There's no free web downloader for Reddit on this site either.
