How to Download Twitter/X Videos to iPhone in 2026

Save any X (Twitter) video to your iPhone in seconds. A free, step by step 2026 guide using the iOS share sheet, with no app and no watermark.

X (formerly Twitter) still has no save button. Tap and hold a video and you can mute it or copy a link, but there is no way to keep the clip itself. This guide shows the fastest way to download X videos to an iPhone in 2026, straight to your Camera Roll, for free.

I have maintained TVDL since 2018, and saving from X is the single most common thing people use it for. The method below takes about two minutes the first time and a couple of taps after that.

The quick answer

To download an X video on iPhone: copy the post link, open the iOS share sheet, and run TVDL, a free iOS Shortcut. It reads the post, shows every available quality, and saves the original video to your Photos with no watermark. There is no separate app to install and nothing is uploaded anywhere.

If you just want the tool, jump to the free download.

What you need

You need three things, and you almost certainly already have all of them:

  • An iPhone, iPad, or Mac running the Shortcuts app (built in since iOS 13).
  • The free TVDL shortcut, added once from the button at the bottom of this guide.
  • The public X post that has the video you want.

That is it. No jailbreak, no third party app store, no desktop computer.

How to download X videos to iPhone step by step

These four steps match the structured how to at the top of this page. Do them once and your iPhone will remember TVDL in the share sheet forever.

  1. Copy the post link. Open the X app or x.com in Safari, find the video, and tap the share icon under it. Tap Copy Link. You do not need to download anything from X itself.
  2. Run TVDL. Tap Share again and choose TVDL from the share sheet, or open the Shortcuts app, tap TVDL, and paste the link when it asks. Both routes do the same thing.
  3. Pick a quality. TVDL reads the post and lists every resolution the clip was uploaded in, for example 1280 by 720 or the original source quality. Tap the one you want.
  4. Save to Photos. The video downloads and lands in your Camera Roll within a few seconds. Open Photos to confirm it is there.

The first time you run any shortcut, iOS asks for permission to access the link and save to Photos. Tap Allow once and you will not be asked again.

How to save an X video from a browser

You do not have to use the X app. If you are reading a post in Safari, tap the Share icon in the toolbar, scroll the share sheet, and tap TVDL. The shortcut grabs the current page link automatically, so you can skip the copy step entirely. This is handy when someone sends you an x.com link in Messages or email.

How to get higher quality or longer videos

The free shortcut saves whatever resolutions X exposes for a normal public post, which covers the vast majority of clips. A few cases are harder: very long videos, region locked posts, or clips where X only serves a low bitrate stream. For those, TVDL Pro adds multi engine fallbacks and dedicated servers that try several sources and pick the highest quality available. If a free download ever returns a smaller file than you expected, Pro is the fix.

TVDL resolves the link on its own servers and sends the video straight back to your iPhone. It never stores your video, it needs no account, and it only works on public posts you can already see, so it does not touch private or protected accounts.

Downloading a public video for personal use, like saving a clip to watch offline or to send to a friend, is generally fine. Reposting someone else's video as your own, or using it commercially without permission, is a different question and is on you. When in doubt, credit the original creator.

Troubleshooting downloads that fail

If a download does not work, it is almost always one of these:

  • The post is private or deleted. TVDL cannot see what your own account cannot see. Open the link in Safari first to confirm the video still plays.
  • You copied a profile link, not a post link. Make sure the link points at the specific post with the video, not the account.
  • X changed something. When a platform updates its player, downloads can break for a day or two. We ship fixes fast. Our help center lists current known issues, and you can subscribe below to get the fix the moment it lands.
